Price to debut Saturday vs. Yankees

David Price will make his much anticipated Tampa Bay Rays debut Saturday afternoon against the Yankees in Tampa.

The first pick in last year’s baseball draft is scheduled to pitch one inning.

“I just want him to go out there and pitch and enjoy his first day on the mound as a Ray,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

Price last pitched June 1, 2007 when he started his last game at Vanderbilt. The Rays made him the first pick in the draft a few weeks later, but didn’t sign him until Aug. 15.

Price did not pitch the rest of the summer.

His work this spring was slowed by a tight left shoulder, which occurred Feb. 26 when Price was warming up to pitch in an intrasquad game.
