Baldelli still iffy

Rocco Baldelli was expected to be the designated hitter Friday, but those plans have been scratched.

Baldelli, who is trying to make it through the spring without reinjuring his hamstrings, had two at-bats Tuesday and didn’t run hard to first base either time. He was not scheduled to play Wednesday or Thursday to give his legs time to rest between starts. But Maddon said Baldelli needs more time before getting back in a game.

“He just wasn’t up to speed and I've just got to make sure with (trainer Ron Porterfield) this being the vague situation that it is,” Maddon said. “I’m just really not sure that he’s going to be able to play (Friday) based on recovery after the last time out.”
